Bedford Street, Bedford Row, Bloomsbury. - Is a poor gentleman who has spent more than forty years as a tutor; is now nearly sixty; had a small school about eleven years ago but had to give it up owing to illness, debt and competition; now suffering extreme hardship; seeks 'remunerative occupation of a quiescent & intellectual nature' such as transcription or translation until a teaching post can be found. Appends list of referees: Revs. Dr Jephson, Dr Turner of Chiswick, John Bickerdike and Joseph Dawson. Enclosed: poems by Gunston, 1841-1842, including 'The Distrest Tutor' (6ff); two notes by Gunston, one on a [formerly stamped] self-addressed label - 'Mr Gunston, Mr Kayler's, 10 Bedford Street, Bedford Row, Bloomsbury (2ff).
