14 Essex St, Strand, W. C. - Sends copy of correspondence between Blake, Tylee & Tylee, solicitors, and Mr Payne relative to Milnes' title of mortgage; presumes from it that Payne will 'afford us the facilities we desire to avoid causing you any strictly unnecessary expense concerning in the matter of the proposed transfer of the mortgage'.

Written out on following page: copy of letter from Blake, Tylee & Tylee to R. E. Payne of Messrs Payne, Eddison and Ford, 9 Jul. 1859. R. M. Milnes wishes to pay off his mortgage next January, using Trust money, but wishes to avoid the expense of a fresh investigation of the title; they have explained that the Trustees will 'not be justified in advancing the money without being satisfied of the fact'; asks if Payne can share the abstract of title which was presumably drawn up when the Assurance Company advanced their money; they also ask who acted for the late Mr Milnes on the occasion of the loan, 'it was probably Mr Tottie of your Town, who must be a very old man: & has, probably, long ago retired from the profession'.

Also written out: copy of letter from R. E. Payne to Blake, Tylee & Tylee, 11 Jul. 1859. - Has no objection to lending them the said abstract of title, but does not feel he can do so without a minute from the Board of Directors authorising this; does not doubt that they will make this readily when he sees them next Wednesday. Discusses the original drawing up of the abstract, and Mr Tottie, who has now retired; Tottie's papers are now in the hands of Mr Arundel, 'his managing clerk'; Arundel has a brother at Pontefract whom he believes continues the Leeds office.
