Scope and content
Everything going on as usual at school. Is 'so glad we [the Liberals] won Kennington' and hopes they will also win the other two [by-elections]. There was a concert on Thursday of 'selections from [Handel's] Creation, but it was not very good'; thinks he would have liked it if it had been done well. Is doing hardly any running, training, or football now; the examinations 'begin on next Monday week'. Is sorry that Bathgate could not find the books, as he knows they were left there [at Wallington?]. Charlie is well. Robert 'will be very glad when this term is over, for except for the examinations, there is nothing [he] care[s] for very much'. Does not now like the 'upper set' in his house, who are 'always quarrelling with one or two of the others'; though he himself stays out of quarrels, 'it is a very disagreeable atmosphere to live in'. However, he 'feel[s] confident of better things from the rising generation'.
