Scope and content
Welcombe, Stratford on Avon. - Glad that Robert is at home again: these are 'evil days when it is well for people to be together', and there may be 'worse to come'. Very relieved that Julian can go back to where he has done so well and be so happy [ie return to school at Bedales]. Bessy must be very happy; wants her to 'engage to the full of her deserts in having such music to hear, and produce'. Has been reading [Euripides's] "Ion" and "Hecuba", which he read at Mr Seawell's school 'more than seventy years ago' to 'get Upper Shell at Harrow'.
