On headed notepaper (with illustration) for the Yorkshire Institution for the Deaf and Dumb, Eastfield House, Doncaster., but dated at 'Mattersey, Bawtry' -Called at Bawtry this morning and found from Mr Atkinson that Milnes was on the way to 'Wooburn' [sic: Woburn]. Advice on the management of the 'beautiful little black pony' which he saw in the yard; has sent round carrots from his own store for it and will send more if needed. Hopes Milnes has not put him 'on the list with Messrs Copport [?] and Edwards' because he has 'stood God-father for Mr W. Duncombe in Bassetlaw [East Retford constituency]'. Hears of 'no opposition this time, and it will be his own fault if he is not again returned at the General Election'. Moxon, Letts and Milnes 'stand A. 1 at Pontefract'. His second daughter is in town, but will return in a fortnight.
