Archival history

The documents in this volume were sent to General Charles Dugua by Pierre Jean Lévêque, commissary of the Directory in the department of the Calvados, in 1796. On f. 1 is a cutting from a French sale catalogue of the mid-nineteenth century describing the volume. The armorial bookplate of Robert, Earl of Crewe, is pasted inside the volume and his heraldic ‘garb’ is stamped on the front cover.
