Scope and content

A professional copy, in parts, of an abridgement and adaptation of Byron's play Werner (1823) by actor-manager Hermann Vezin. Each part carries a label, "14 parts to be returned to Mr Mr Hermann Vezin." The fourteen parts are: Werner (53 pp.), Ulric (33 pp.), Gabor (27 pp.), Idenstein (20 pp.), Stalenheim (18 pp.), Josephine (11 pp.), Fritz (5 pp.), Ida Stalenheim (5 pp.), Henrick (3 pp.), Eric (2 pp.), Rodolph (2 pp.), Arnheim (1 p.), Ludwig (1 p.), and Meister (1 p.). Some parts have additions and deletions in a different hand. Each is signed by the copying bureau E. & J. Hastings, copyists, 9 University St, Tottenham Court Road, at which address they were known to be in business copying plays in 1859-1860.
