Observations on pigmentation under various conditions and preparations, arranged under species headings, accompanied by illustrations of wing scales etc as seen under a microscope. Some references to numbered slides. Sources of specimens, such as 'Mr Scott', 'W. Rothschild, Tring' etc sometimes noted.

Notebook used from both ends in; heading 'Coleoptera etc.' written on first page from one end, 84v, and entries continue this way until f 53v.
