        History

        Archibald Obins was born at Exmouth in Devon (censuses), the son of Michael Obins (Al. Dublin.), and baptised at Littleham on 23 Oct. 1773 (parish register). On 1 Apr. 1793, at the age of 17, he was admitted at Trinity College, Dublin (Al. Dublin.), where he obtained the degree of MA (CCEd). He was instituted as rector of Hemingford Abbots in Cambridgeshire in 1811 (Lincolnshire Archives, Register XL), but was granted a licence for non-residence in 1818 (Huntingdonshire Archives, AH27/1/271/158). He was living at Birkenhead in 1851 (census) and at Bath in 1861, where he died on 6 Jan. 1868, aged 94 (burial register, Bath Abbey; Belfast Newsletter, 9 Jan. 1868, p. 3).
