Eleanor Oliver Bramwell was born in Scotland in 1863, the daughter of James Paton Bramwell (1824-1890), chief consulting surgeon at the Perth Royal Infirmary. She was the sister of John Milne Bramwell. She married Frank Podmore in 1891, but the couple separate in 1907.
