This letter was purchased in 2019 from Richard Ford Ltd, dealers in books, printed ephemera, and manuscripts. According to their records, it came from the collection of Lord Houghton, who was a friend of both Sir Henry Taylor and Caroline Norton, and a collector of autographs. There is a stub attached to the edge of the paper, suggesting its removal from a bound volume.
