Sale to be held by auction by Catling and Son at the Corn Exchange, Cambridge, 26 Jul. 1916. Goods removed from Trinity under a Distress levied for non-payment of a fine under the Defence of the Realm (Consolidation) Regulations, 1914; they include a Chippendale settee, gold watch and chain, Russell's Columbia University Butler gold medal (awarded in 1915), and over 1, 500 books. Sent to J[ohn] Whitaker, 68 Bridge Street, Cambridge, on 24 Jul. 1916. With stamp of the University Library, Cambridge, as it was first donated there, probably by Whitaker's son.
