Scope and content

The first piece is headed ‘Prelude’ and begins ‘[Alle]gro moderato’. At the end is written ‘A.G. | April /95’. The second piece is headed ‘II | At Evensong’ and begins ‘Andante tranquillo e sostenuto’. The third piece, which begins ‘Allegro vivace’ is headed only ‘III’ and appears to be incomplete. The numbering suggests that the pieces were intended to form a set. Only the first piece is dated, but the others were evidently written not long afterwards.
