Scope and content
Refers to the news - which he read in the Athaenaeum - that a new edition of Sidgwick's Methods of Ethics is soon to come out. Informs him that in a revised edition of his own History of Morals, which appeared a few months previously, some of the passages which Sidgwick criticised 'have been supported.' States that he mentions this only for Sidgwick's own sake, and informs him that he has mentioned in a short preface that '2 or 3 passages in [ ] edition have been expunged'. Offers to have his 'later [production]' sent to Sidgwick, if the latter gives him his address.
