Headed 'Answer of Mr. Milnes to the Requisition sent him by such of his Friends, as assembled at the New Elephant'.
Before receiving the request that he stand again for Pontefract [see HOUG/BP/11] he had made up his mind to withdraw, acting 'from the feeling that I had already occasioned my Friends sufficient trouble in three contested Elections'. Now must 'solicit a little further time' before deciding what he should do. Their kindness has 'left an Impression which shall never be effaced'; will respond within a day or two.
