Dated 24 Oct. 1904 - Thanks him for his anthropological questions, which will be useful in Southern Nigeria; answers his questions [about Igara kingship] arising from his article [on the Atta of Igala]; refers to his forthcoming book 'Cross River Natives' [... 'being some notes on the primitive pagans of Obubura Hill district, southern Nigeria']; would be happy to get more information, but is a political officer not an anthropologist, notes the hazards of working with 'savages whose language one does not understand and who may be attempting to take your life while you are endeavouring to record their beliefs!'
