Sir Anthony was a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee for the New England Regional Primate Research Center, administered by Harvard Medical School. He sat on the Committee from March 1972 to April 1996. The papers in this series include correspondence dealing with site visits, operational and administrative matters, research reports, agendas, meeting minutes, and references.
This sub-series contains gifts and commemorative items relating to Sir Anthony's lectures and talks. of these items were awarded to Sir Anthony in honour of his achievements, usually following a keynote lecture or address.
Sir Anthony acted as external assessor for review and appraisal of research grant applications.
This is an alphabetized set of index cards of all reference cited in Sir Anthony's papers. It includes his own papers and those he co-authored. Early 18th and 19th century dates are for papers or works read. Taken together, these listings capture the breadth of Sir Anthony's study and research.

In 1972, Batchelor invited Chairmen of European national committees of theoretical and applied mechanics to meet in Warsaw to discuss the idea of a European Mechanics Council. However the move provoked serious concern amongst senior members of IUTAM who took steps to prevent the meeting. However, the incident resulted in the establishment of a IUTAM study group to look into regional cooperation in general.

These reprint request slips, for papers authored or co-authored by Sir Anthony, were sent from all over the world. They provide a good indication of who requested reprints and which papers were most popular. The slips were arranged chronologically and in paper number order according to each paper requested, using Sir Anthony's list of publications as a guide (see E/1/1).

An outbreak of Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE, also known as 'mad cow disease') struck the United Kingdom's cattle farms in the mid-1980s. By the late 1990s, the disease had spread to humans (as a new variant of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, nvCJD).
Sir Anthony served as a member of the Southwood Working Party, which sought to advise the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food (MAFF) and the Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) about BSE. The initial report, published in 1989, is located in file D/28/1.
Sir Anthony was also involved in the subsequent BSE (Phillips) Judicial Inquiry, which sought to investigate the UK government's response to the outbreak. The inquiry was announced in parliament in December 1997, and produced its report in October 2000.

The China Key Studies Development Project was a World Bank initiative which directed funding to bolster scientific research in China. The Project designated 75 Key Laboratories and 58 Special laboratories for World Bank ad United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) financial support. Sir Anthony was an International Member of the Project's Programme Advisory Group (PAG), a group of Chinese and foreign experts whose role was to monitor progress in the designated laboratories.
Sir Anthony was a member of various electron microscopy (EM) societies towards the beginning of his scientific career. The Epstein-Barr virus was the first virus discovered through EM techniques alone.
Sir Anthony served as a member of the Executive Board and as Chairman of the Committee on Science in Central and Eastern Europe (COMSCEE), the latter established to assist with the problems, needs, and opportunities of the scientific community in the former Soviet Union.
Sir Anthony was a member of the Board and Executive Committee (EXCO) of the European Science Foundation (ESF).
The Medical Research Council (MRC) is one of the United Kingdom's central funding bodies for medical research, originally founded in 1913 and re-established by a royal charter in 1920. Sir Anthony was appointed as a member of the Medical Research Council (MRC) in 1982 for four years, serving both on the Council and as Chairman of the Cell Biology Board for the first two years. Thereafter her served as chairman of the Tropical Medicine Board from 1 September 1985–August 1988.
The Royal Society is the United Kingdom's national academy of scientists. Sir Anthony was elected a fellow in 1979. He also served on the Royal Society Council from 1986–1991, as the Foreign Secretary and Vice President, simultaneously. Sir Anthony also served on the other Royal Society committees listed at D/21/2–D/21/5.
