Not sent, according to note on verso of draft. On verso of copy a note from Sir Charles Trevelyan, dated 28 Jun. 1875, states that he 'quite approve[s] of the letter overleaf'.
Letter appears to be incomplete; Ellis expresses surprise that Napier has taken a week to reply in a matter which he believed to be urgent.

AS thanks EA for her concern. He caught a cold yesterday: 'I know not how, unless it be that I have taken too much care of myself; and with a new cough and a sore throat I must not come out'.
Thanks her and Henry for their gift of a book stand, which Bryce's sister [Mary or Catherine?] informs him arrived at B[ ] Square since he left the previous Monday. Explains that he and his wife are in Cumberland for four or five days [on their honeymoon?], 'before going to the further parts of Tyrol.'
