Scope and content
Acknowledges receipt of a copy of the Methods of Ethics, which Sidgwick sent to him. Admits to having only read the table of contents and the chapter on 'the Free Will controversy.' Discusses the latter topic, and admits to holding more or less the same views on it as Sidgwick. Recalls a discussion with Henry on the matter 'some four or five years ago.' Expresses hope that Sidgwick will visit him sometime between the time of his writing and the Spring. Refers to several points, 'moral and political', which he wishes to discuss with Sidgwick.
