Englefield Green. Surrey.
20 April 1936.
Dear Dr McKerrow,
I hope my conversation this morning wasn’t too unintelligible. The line sounded as if you were twanging a harp and I gathered that my own efforts wern’t too clear. What I was trying to convey was that as the Titus Andronicus you said you were posting a fortnight ago hadn’t turned up, I was beginning to wonder whether I had given you a garbled address and the parcel had gone astray. The possibility that I had done something silly had been on my mind for some days and I was much relieved to hear that I hadn’t anything to answer for! I expect to be here for about three weeks or a month and if there is anything I can do to save your time, I shall be very glad to do it.
Yours sincerely,
Alice Walker.
