      TRANSCRIPT:

      Coria del Rio
      May 28th 1911

      Dear Miss Stanley

I could not write in the train it was too hot.

I could not write tonight because we start tomorrow at 5 and its now 11.30.

I cant write after tonight because I am going two days from post.

Its very cool and pleasant and there are heaps of birds—but I’ve got a cold and am as usual linked {1} with coming disaster.—Oh I wish I could get out of that habit.

Thank you for the Rest Cure {2}—it was interesting and suggestive. I think I should err in the other direction with my unfortunate wife. I should always be only too willing to do or to try anything because of possible disaster if everything was not tried!

The hero’s sudden developments are of course ridiculously sudden but all the same a readable book.

      Yrs
      Edwin Montagu

      —————
