TRANSCRIPT:
India Office, Whitehall, S.W.
Nov. 15th 1911.
Dear Miss Stanley
I am most grateful for your letter.
I regret that I cant lunch today because I am going out of town this evening and so cant get away from this office.
You couldnt get to tea at the H. of C. today at 4·30 or Friday could you, I go away today about 5·15. I shall be away all tomorrow until late in the evening when I am dining at Downing.
I was disgusted not to see you last night. I went out to my usual solitary dinner at the Reform and returned just after you left. I loathe to think of you in London for a whole week and not to be able to see you at all!
As for Oldham it becomes all the more beastly as time goes on.
I dont hear people saying Arthur is to blame. We must make up our minds to giving Oldham a Labour man in future.
I like Barton too—But nevertheless I am reassured to see the (almost) in brackets!
Yrs ever
Edwin S. Montagu
