Sir Walter Greg,
Tanners Knap,
Petworth,
Sussex.
Dear Dr. Greg,
Your kind answer to my enquiry concerning Pericles was forwarded to my temporary address in Devon.
Your comments and thoughts are helpful. You have strengthened my doubts about the idea of mixed copy, a tempting but very improbable solution of the problem. The suggestion that one may be able to account for those features in the text that look like foul papers by postulating that the reporter made additions and changes in his copy is at least a good hypothesis to work on. If I will not be able to arrive at more definite conclusions after further analysis of the text, such sound thinking is at least a step in the right direction. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me.
Yours sincerely,
F. David Hoeniger.
