The John Rylands Library, Manchester
Dear Dr McKerrow:
Many thanks for the first issue of the “Review of English Studies” which you have been good enough to send to me.
It is a most attractive first number and I offer you most sincere congratulations upon its production.
The “Review” will meet a long felt want, and will certainly find many readers here.
It is quite time that WE had such a periodical of our own. Too long have we been content to leave matters to the Germans, who have certainly rendered great service to students of English by the publication of “Englische Studien”.
You are to be congratulated upon your courage in undertaking this work, and it is to be hoped that success will attend your efforts.
With the best of wishes for the coming year. Believe me
Yours faithfully
H. Guppy
