Scope and content

The Abbey, Carlisle. - Originally enclosing Rawnsley's letter about Sty Head [Pass] to the "Daily News", who asked him to send them something to back up Sale's [?] article. Believes that 'the scare is quite premature', but suggests that Trevelyan writes a letter of protest to the newspaper showing that the road would be 'a blunder not only for the Ratepayer's point of view' but also for hotel and lodging-house keepers, and 'what a National loss the quiet of the '"Scafell Massive" would be to Great Britain".
