Penrhôs, Holyhead.—Has received his telegram but no letters. Viola and Margot would like some ducks [from Hickling] if he and the ‘old Boy’ [Asquith] don’t get through them all. Has done nothing yet but walk to the beach. Suggests he go to Chester and Queensferry before coming to Penrhôs. Besides a large number of children, there are only ‘examples of Hugh Smith family’ there at present. She enjoyed the summer in London, and is looking forward to going to the Hebrides together.

      Penrhôs, Holyhead
      Aug 17th 1916

My darling I got your telegram this morning but so far not even an empty envelope. I hope you’ve posted the forgotten letter from Hickling. Did it have any special news? I sent you a telegram about the ducks. If you got a lot I’m sure Viola wd like a few I can think of no one else besides her and Margot, but you’ll be able to get through some yourself particularly if the old Boy is with you. I hope you’ve had a good day, here it is perfect and was very nice yesterday when we arrived tho’ the whole way up it was pouring. I havent prawned yet nor indeed done anything but walk to the beach & back and sit in the garden. I do wish you were here and could stay doing nothing for at least a week. Its really divine just now.

I suppose it wouldnt be possible or convenient for you to go to Chester Friday evening, then you could do Queensferry on Sat morning and catch the 12.30 train here, the Mail and arrive at 2. It would make it so much more worth while, but I daresay you have plans for Friday.

There is a large collection of children here otherwise nothing except various examples of Hugh Smith family male and female. I hope you wont be bored? I’m very busy on masses of underclothes so when you arrive I hope I shall be able to startle you by at anyrate our novelty.

I’ve enjoyed the summer in London havent you? It seems over now I mean that part of it and on looking back I find absolutely nothing to complain of. I only wish it could have wound up with Corrybrough, but please keep your mind steadily fixed on the Hebrides, I do long to do that with you.

Give this to Mrs Lee will you.

      Much much love
      Venetia
