Alderley Park, Chelford, Cheshire
Dec 28th 1915 Tuesday.
Darling I had great fun yesterday, notwithstanding the fact that it rained as I’ve never seen it rain before and by 2 I and all the rest of the field were soaked to the skin and they took the hounds home. I got back about 3.30 had a boiling bath and went to bed, and to sleep, till 6.30 which was rather fun, then woke up and read the book Mr Birrell had given me and got up, reluctantly, for dinner. I considered it a well spent day. I wonder what yours was like. I hope very much for a letter giving me all the details of the Crisis by tomorrows post, if not tonight. I long to know what has happened, if anything, did the P.M. dine last night.
I hope you got Margot’s telegram which I sent on.
Tell me also when you write if my bedroom fireplace is getting on, and just hustle the men a little, tell them it must be ready by Monday, tho’ as a matter of fact I think I shant be back till Tuesday. Also ask Lee to water my bulbs, most important, and 3rdly to get me a 2lb box of chocolates from a shop called Meyer in Buckingham Palace Rd. Perhaps you would bring those with you.
I think thats all.
We’ve done nothing today, a short walk in the morning and in the afternoon Sylvia & I & the 3 children went for a ride. We’ve just come in.
Mikky has been terribly neglected by me and everyone else. I cant think why he comes here. Clementine comes tomorrow with one or 2 of her children.
Write at great length however tedious you may find it.
Much love
Venetia
