These letters and papers were formerly attached to guards and bound in a volume, the cover of which was removed before it came to Trinity. The contents have now for the most part been separated, but most have part of a guard attached and the following are still attached to one another in twos or threes: 3–4, 6–7, 17–18, 51–3. The items are numbered in the order in which they were bound, 14, 52, and 112 being out of chronological order. Enclosures follow the letters with which they were sent. 183, which contains no message from Lady Palgrave, may have been bound in the volume by mistake.
