Histoire archivistique
Inside the front cover is a bookplate recording that the book was given to the Library by J. W. Clark in 1897. On a flyleaf near the front is the following inscription:
‘In 1813 Lord Byron was planning a second tour in Greece, and asked my father to accompany him as his physician. Everything was ready for a start when the plague broke out in the Levant, and the tour was given up. Subsequently the idea of [a] journey to Holland occurred to Lord Byron, but nothing came of it.
‘The two letters from Edward Daniel Clarke, with the accompanying “list” of travel requisites and things to be observed, are perhaps the most interesting in the series.
‘I give this volume to the Library of Trinity College.
‘J. W. Clark.
‘28 May, 1897.’
