Group of men seated sideways in a boat with a boathouse behind. Men identified as Bow, E. J. Tickell; 2 J. H. Gubbins; 3 F. Gurdon; 4 J. C. Fellowes, J. W. J. Hardman; 5 A. J. Black; 6 F. W. Fox; 7 M. Beauchamp; Stroke S. P. Smith; Cox W. Wickham. An older man at back may be W. Adams, boatman. Men identified in a later (archivist's) hand. Photograph titled '1st Boat, May 1882.' At left is a narrative of the race and a mention that the same crew went to Henley with Hardman in the no. 4 seat, but did not win.
