Notice biographique

Henry Aldwyn Guildford Sprigg was born in Wandsworth in 1882, the son of Reverend Guilford Sprigg, the Rector of Emsworth and Rural Dean of Havant, and his wife Florence Sprigg of Kinsey House. Henry was educated at Eton, then attended Trinity College Cambridge from 1901-1904. He later joined the army, sustaining multiple gunshot wounds to the head in 1916 while in action in France. In 1917, he was deployed to Egypt. His Division was then deployed to Palestine, where he fought in several battles, including the battle of Berukin in 1918, where he was killed in action.

Purchased on eBay on 13 February 2024. The item was removed from a photo album originally belonging to Henry Aldwyn Guildford Sprigg, who was a Trinity Student from 1901-1904.

The image depicts a large group of people posing for a photograph at Market Hill Fountain during the Trinity College May Ball, possibly in 1908. Munsey Silversmiths and Jewellers can be seen in the background. On the reverse of the item are four more photographs of a house and gardens, with 1904 annotated in pencil.
