Scope and content
Remarks on Sidgwick's kindness in sending him his book [Practical Ethics?], which he had already read. Expresses his contentment at receiving it, as he had been writing something on the subject 'before the S[ ] began' and hopes to go on with it. Mentions Sidgwick's remarks on the Machiavellianism of public life. Reports that within the previous quarter of an hour he had been writing about the T[ ] with King M[ ], 'without having the smallest [ ] notion of its merits!' Sends his regards to Mrs Sidgwick.
