Scope and content

Hans Clarke had been a school-fellow of Taylor at University College School. He became ill in 1970 and died in 1972, the correspondence being continued by his wife Flora.
Also included is correspondence 1973 with Clarke's sister Rebecca Friskin, on early recollections of Clarke's experiments with tear gas.

Note: A collection of Clarke's notebooks, papers and correspondence (including c.30 letters from Taylor 1955-72) is deposited at the American Philosophical Society Library, Philadelphia. An outline description of the collection can be found in the Survey of Sources Newsletter, May 1977, pp.12-13, of the Survey of Sources for the History of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Philadelphia.
