Scope and content
Explains that it was impossible for him to go to Terling that day [for Henry Sidgwick's funeral], but that he would have given a great deal to be able to show his deep respect and regard for him. States that although he had known Henry for only a few years, he has always had a great respect for him intellectually. Adds, however, that it was his character more than his mind that he has lately learned to think of. Is certain that Henry has attained that vision of God, which the pure in heart are due. Regrets his death, but supposes that those who cared most for him 'could not have wished him to outlive his strength or capacity for thought'.
