My dear Miss Butcher,

I have carefully examined your system of “Orthotype” once more, and I find that it is not only interesting and ingenious but most eminently practical and useful.

When I compare a page of classical English marked with the “Phonosêmas” (I cannot stand “Phonosigns”) with the same passage printed in the phonetic symbols of the “International Phonetic Association” the advantages all seem to be with your method, which not only looks much better, but is simpler cheaper & more easily learnt.

If ever I have again to initiate Orientals into the mysteries of English pronunciation I shall consider your system indispensable.
