Writes on the death of Henry Sidgwick to express his sympathy with Nora on her loss. Claims that although he and Henry had sometimes held different views, these never were such as to interfere with the friendship that existed between them. Refers to Henry as having a sweet nature, with a high mind and unbending principle. Quotes two letters, which [he] himself received on suffering a bereavement, in relation to the impossibility of offering comfort to grieving relatives. Claims that '[t]ime and work will do a great deal', and hopes that Nora may be able still to continue her own usefulness. Adds that his daughter joins him in offering 'heartfelt condolence', and that she 'had a very great admiration' for Henry, and always looked forward to meeting him with pleasure'.
