Writes to express her sympathy with Nora on the death of Henry Sidgwick, and to convey to her the sense of 'the heavy loss that not only Newnham but Girton and the whole cause of women's education and advancement have sustained' on account of his passing. Supposes that 'no one except those who knew him best can have any adequate conception of what it cost him to give so freely of himself - of his time and energy and talents - to the furtherance of the movement with which his memory will always be associated....' Declares that it seems 'unspeakably sad that he should have been taken, with his powers still unimpaired, from the world and from [Nora].'
