Addresses Sidgwick as 'My Dear Philosophical Brick', and states that he wishes that Sidgwick were 'that particular brick on which the Clergy of [Easter] are going to impinge'. Remarks that the said clergy 'have also got themselves to the difficult and up to this time impossible task of extracting out of [Temple] some public declaration' of he knows not what. Observes that he doesn't think that they have much chance.
