Reports receipt of her 'two kind messages', which reached him together as he sat 'in Council'. Claims that the news cheered them a lot. Assures her 'of how much [Henry Sidgwick] is loved and looked up to' by them all. Asks her to pass on their sentiments to him. Prays that 'all these good symptoms may be contained and that he may enjoy refreshing sleep.' Remarks on the sudden change for him 'in these last 24 hours from his life of singular force and energy!'.
