John Westlake: writes on the death of Henry Sidgwick to tell her of his and his wife's grief on hearing of her bereavement. States that the loss that his death will be to Cambridge is inexpressible. Alice Westlake expresses her and her husband's sympathies with Nora in her great loss. Declares that the loss 'to the University and the intellectual world' is an irreparable one, but that 'women have an especial reason to mourn the taking away of one who has for so many years past taken such a leading and generous part in their advancement.' Claims that such women will never forget the debt they owe him. Assures Nora that many join her in her grief, and hopes that this can be of some comfort to her. Claims that Cambridge 'will be a different place without him.
