Note regarding provenance on leaf facing inside front cover: 'This manuscript was presented to Captain Smyth, R. N. by the Engineers, who were engaged in the works which it describes in 1923. At that time Captain Smyth was employed by the British Government in making a survey of the ports and Coast of the Mediterranean, and he furnished the above named officers with much information concerning the coast of Sardinia. This work was presented to hm by the Engineers by the Order of the Viceroy of Sardinia... Captain Smyth presented the manuscript to me in September 1828. J. Lee. Doctor's Commons.'
Two bookplates of William Henry Smyth are pasted to the inside front cover, and a bookplate with John Lee's coat of arms is pasted to the facing page.
