Witte Huis, Doorn. - Has spent some 'delicious hours' with Bob's "The Bride of Dionysus"; only regrets the removal of some passages for the sake of [Donald Tovey's] music, and hopes that she will be able to see the first proofs again when she returns to the Shiffolds to compare them with the final arrangement. Also likes the shorter poems; perhaps does not 'appreciate' some of the translations as much as she is 'not a scolar [sic]' and feels too distant from the old poets, but then she has not yet read them carefully. Finds the print 'clear and easy to read', even though she has been ill in bed for over three weeks; today thinks for the first time that she might recover relatively soon, as 'the pains are so much less'. Asks if Robert is working hard as 'a grass widow', as he wished. Has not heard from Bessie for a while. Would like to hear how the 'Dutch dinner', which she read about in the "N[ieuwe] R[otterdamsche] Courant", went, as well as the 'fancy ball' and 'Jean de P's concert', and whether Bessie and Julian are 'thriving' at Hove. Imagines Robert sitting by her bed to tell her all this as they listen to the 'chorus of nightingales'. Her head is much better now.
