Scope and content

Welcombe, Stratford on Avon. - Tells Elizabeth to be careful and rest as much as she can; wishes she could come to them and Caroline would look after her. Booa [Mary Prestwich] is recovering; the doctor says she can travel tomorrow. Mary came yesterday for the day, and spoke at a WLA [Women's Liberal Association] meeting in the afternoon; the women 'were delighted with her' and very interested in the Insurance Act: 'much in favour of it but a little puzzled'. The men seem 'less appreciative & bothered by the friendly societies'. Has been giving the servants leaflets and telling them to choose their Society, but does not know how much advice to give them. Going to York tomorrow and Wallington on Saturday. Julian must look very nice on the donkey. Asks when 'the great journey' [Robert's trip to the East with Goldsworthy Lowes Dickinson?] is likely to be; fears it will worry Elizabeth.
