Portée et contenu

Girgenti [Agrigento]. - Has just received Robert's letter; she and Sir George are 'quite distressed' to hear of Elizabeth's illness; glad she was in a 'comfortable healthy place' and well looked after. Is sure Naples is very tiring. Hopes she soon recovers, and not undertake the journey to Sicily unless she feels quite fit for it. Would come and nurse her, but Robert's note suggests she is 'throwing off the feverishness'. They enjoyed Palermo, and this place seems 'most wonderful'; they plan to stay for a couple of days to see the temples. It is 'a most barbarous country, & one feels surprised to find a decent hotel'; likes to think of what the old city must have been like.
