Scope and content

Wallington, Cambo, Northumberland. - Arrived safely after a 'long tedious journey'. Charlie had arrived in the afternoon; found Sir George 'fairly well' though she thinks he 'rather feels the sudden cold'. There has been 'a terrible destruction of trees', and much damage done to the roofs of the farmhouses, as the storm was very bad on Tuesday night. When Sir George got out of the train at Morpeth, his 'hat was blown into space, & never seen again! and the drive from the station was somewhat perilous!'. Booa [Mary Prestwich] says that Miss Martin will go home with Elizabeth for a few days, which is very kind of her; hopes Elizabeth will get out [of the nursing home] tomorrow and back to her house before long; she must keep up her spirits. Was very sorry to leave her; is sending some flowers.
