On House of Commons Library notepaper, with note 'Write Wallington'. - Congratulates Bob on his engagement; only has the 'vague accounts' which their father can give about his 'future sister', but it sounds as if Bob has made a 'delightful choice'. Tells him he should send them all photographs unless he is going to bring her to meet them soon, and he should certainly write and tell Charles all about her and their wedding plans. Good that he is doing 'something to counteract the damned effect of Lyddite and shrapnel [i.e. the Second Boer War]... it is all terribly hateful', though he does not think that England is as much in the wrong as Bob does. Their father seemed 'greatly pleased' at Bob's news, which is 'a comfort'; he has been 'much more appreciative and confident' in Bob over the last couple of years, and does not 'seem alarmed at the originality of the selection'.
