      TRANSCRIPT:

      India Office, Whitehall, S.W.
      22.9.1911.

      Dear Miss Stanley

How very jolly it is to see your handwriting, and although to normal people your ill health would be a subject for condolences your well known joy in a rare illness makes me chary of offering them.

The Inverness time was all right except that after Archerfield which I left full of memories culminating in that of the P.M. and Birrell playing musical chairs everything was a trifle different.

As regards Penrhos may I come on Friday 20th till the following Monday or Tuesday or will that be too late.

I fear everything else in October is full up.

I must leave off now as the messengers are clamouring for an Indian mail but I hope to find some excuse for puzzling you with caligraphic problems before long. I have had my first letter from Elizabeth {1}—it was fun.

I suppose you are still with Pauls and Jonahs somewhere—I’ve lost sight of my Bluetooth somewhere!

      Yrs
      Edwin S. Montagu
