Saw [Elizabeth] in Sicily long ago, and remembers 'she is strikingly intellectual, and also very sensible and with a look of character'; she has been 'brought up severely well' and he is sure 'she knows what she is about'. Thinks it likely that 'it is quite an exceptional chance for the peculiarities required'; does not know how much Robert is in love as has not yet heard from him, but 'think[s] it is all right'.
