Dear Greg,

Thank you for your letter and card of 12th and 13th June. I am sending you a copy of Housman’s Manilius, volume I. Whenever I take up this Introduction, I get great pleasure from reading a few pages, and then his vanity and bad manners gradually overcome my admiration for his gifts and wit. Besides, not all of it is up to the highest standards: he heaps together errors from all kinds of MSS. and periods, without analysis and without a warning that one is not entitled, for each MS., to assume that it has passed through all the conditions that have affected other MSS.

I hope my belated letter reassured you. Your proofs arrived safely, and, in fact, were formally acknowledged on 27th May and 1st June. The posts in these days are still uncertain.

Yours sincerely,
Kenneth Sisam

Dr. W. W. Greg,
Standlands, River, Petworth.
