[On mourning paper for 8 Grosvenor Crescent, S. W.]:- Thanks his mother for her letter; will show it to Bojon [E. E. Bowen?] on Tuesday or Wednesday, 'which is the proper day'. Was 'top in the questions answered this week', so hopes he will be top next fortnight. The weather is 'dreadfully hot' and he is not wearing 'draws [sic]'. though he always wears a vest. 'Ducker is almost too hot sometimes, but it is very jolly'. Charlie is well; Robert went for a walk with him this afternoon. Is glad Georgie is 'getting on so well at Wixenford'; the school 'seems to be getting on better in games' than before. Read his father's speech 'with great interest', and hopes he will 'get in [to Parliament again]'; the elections are 'very exciting', and he supposes the result is 'still very doubtful'.
They have been catching carp in the grove pond; in all about 225, though he himself only caught two. Is 'getting on very well'.
